Our Story

Mary O 'Riordan opened O'Farrell's on the 3rd sept 1904. She hailed from Cork and in 1906 she married Simon O'Farrell, from Dublin. They had 3 children-Richard, Victor and Kathleen. Victor married Eileen Murphy from Butlerstown and they took over the family business. They had 7 children, Fay, Kevin, Pat, Eugene, Barry, Clare and Alannah.

In 1968 when Victor passed away Barry took over the Family business. He met and married Mary Murphy from Cork in 1973 and they had 4 daughters- Victoria, Hilary, Clodagh and Jean.

The business diversified over the years and has sold a varied range of products since it first started trading in 1904. Today, the tradition continues with their daughter Hilary and her husband John at the helm, proudly carrying the shop into its fourth generation. O'Farrell's is a family run business and is so proud of being a part of the Bandon Community.

What We Do

Over the years, O’Farrell’s has sold just about everything you can imagine, from daily essentials to seasonal surprises. These days, the shop focuses on gifts, greeting cards, candles, Christmas decorations, and the latest bestselling books. We’re open seven days a week, making sure there’s always time for customers to drop in - whether they’re picking up something special or simply enjoying the friendly chat that has always been part of our service.

We have generations of families coming into our shop, and we wouldn’t be here without them.

A Family Effort

Being a family business means everyone plays a part. Hilary, John, Barry and Mary are involved in the day to day running. Jean contributes wherever she’s needed, from social media to creating displays, while Victoria and Clodagh are often behind the counter lending a hand.
